Arrived night prior. Race day 530am, it rained for 1hr. Picked up race#s,
organized transition area, put #s on my bike, helmet. Race organizers gave good
countdown instructions. Racers tried to self seed by race #. I didn't know 2mi
run route very well but knew not to go too fast as I still had a hard bike and
run afterward.
Road was a little wet but followed racers ahead of me towards 1mi
turn around and came back fine. Found my bike in t1, got shoes, helmet on and
started bike out of town, I knew bike course would be hilly out and back, short
rolling hills. There was 1 section of 50 yard on sr27 that was under
construction that I was concerned about, but made it passed, focused on counting
mile markers until turn around. Ride back was the same rolling hills back into
town.
Made it back to t2, stopped @ dismount line, but didn't unclip very well.
Got back to bike rack, put shoes back on, hat, Gatorade bottle, power gels,
started run. First mile is uphill to stair step loop and then downhill to river
path. Grabbed cool cloth, started run on path, grabbed water @ mm2, kept going.
The wooden bridges had sand on them to prevent slipping which helped. Made it to
turn around, started back. Kept focusing on counting down the mm's. @ mm5 had to
climb hill back to overpass and down stairs, made sure to not fall down. Raced
towards finish , almost caught the guy ahead of me.
Finished, very happy. Sat
under shower cooled off. Race volunteers very helpful, organized very well.
Plenty of food, drinks for racers afterward.
